DDr. Manfred Reichl (Chairman)

Manfred Reichl was Senior Partner at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and Managing Director of the offices in Austria and Central and Eastern Europe. He studied law and civil engineering in Austria and has more than 20 years of extensive experience in international strategic consulting. Nowadays, he is a successful entrepreneur, investor and business angel. He was appointed Business Angel of the Year 2009.

Mag. Rainer C. Burian

Rainer Burian was founder and 25 years CEO of PAA Laboratories, a leading supplier of cell culture products to the biopharmaceutical industry. He developed the company from a small local lab to a global corporation with subsidiaries on three continents. Several company prizes were awarded to PAA under his leadership. In 2011, he sold the company to a multinational pharmaceutical corporation and became a successful investor and entrepreneur with extensive experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. Rainer holds a Master in Business Administration (Mag.) from Vienna University of Economics and Business.

Josef Penninger, MD

Josef Penninger is the founding scientific director of IMBA and oversees all research activities at the institute. He studied Medicine and Arts at the University Innsbruck and worked as post-doctoral fellow since 1990 at the Ontario Cancer Institute. He is a Professor of Genetics at the University of Vienna, an Adjunct Full Professor of Immunology and Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto, and holds a Honorary Professorship from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Josef worked for 13 years with Amgen Inc., the Ontario Cancer Institute, and the University of Toronto in Canada and is the founder of APEIRON Biologics.

Erwin Rasinger, MD

Erwin Rasinger is an Austrian physician and politician. He studied Medicine and Business Administration in Vienna and became referee for ecology of the Medical Association of Austria in 1981. In 1987, he joined the Municipal Council of Vienna as deputy and the National Assembly where he was deputy for healthcare from 1994 till 2017.

Dr. Helmut Schuehsler

Dr. Helmut Schuehsler has gained extensive investment experience in numerous geographies, starting from Austria in 1987. He joined TVM Capital in Munich in 1990 and went on to raise more than $1 billion in committed capital from global investors for life science venture capital. Over the years, the firm expanded by becoming one of the leading pan-European investors, and also entered the United States and Canada. From 2009 onwards, Dr. Schuehsler has led and built TVM Capital Healthcare in Dubai, for healthcare private equity investments in the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia. His investment track record includes close to 30 direct investments, as well as positions as chairman, vice chairman or director at around 30 innovative life science and healthcare companies. As a managing partner and/or CEO, he has overseen investments in more than 100 healthcare and life science companies, with 50 going public in the United States and Europe. For several years between 2003 and 2009, he represented the European private equity and venture capital industry at the European government level in Brussels in various roles such as chairman of the Professional Standards Committee and finally in 2007/08 as chairman of the European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (EVCA, now called “Invest Europe”).
